Introducing Fairlee Prune Blend

Category: Health & Nutrition

The new Fairlee® Prune Blend is a fantastic way to increase fibre-containing beverage and snack offerings on your menu. Made with a delicious blend of prune and apple juice from concentrate, it’s a cost-effective product to include on your resident and patient menus for a variety of regular diets and to meet texture-modified requirements.

Increasing Fibre and Fluid intake are key factors in promoting a healthy lifestyle and improving bowel function.

Dietary fibre is an essential part of a healthy diet and plays many roles in the body such as promoting bowel regularity, potentially improving cholesterol levels, and prolonging the feeling of satiety. Fibre is found in several foods such as legumes, vegetables, whole grains and fruits like prunes and prune juice. Both these prune-based foods are known to contain natural ingredients that
contribute to a laxative effect and may help soften stools.

In Canada, it’s recommended that females consume 25 g or more of fibre per day and males 38 g or more.1 While the amount of dietary fibre contained in a product is part of the mandatory labelling requirements for the Nutrition Facts table, most Canadians consume less than recommended. Fairlee® Prune Blend contains 3 g of fibre per 250 mL, which amounts to a significant 11% of the Daily Value (DV) per day.

Adequate fluid intake is also part of an effective bowel management regime. Since Fairlee® Prune Blend provides both dietary fibre and fluids, it can be a winning addition to your cycle menu for a variety of diet and texture types.
